Mast refit

The term ¨mast refit¨has become established when changing the standing rigg.

To perform such a work, we remove the mast with the help of an auto crane.

Before the arrival of the crane, it is necessary to prepare the mast for its disassembly (remove the sails and the boom, disconnect the electric cables and laying them outside through the deck, prepare the wires/ropes and the wire/rope tensioners as well).

When the crane arrives, it is necessary to place the lift cable on the prepared mast.

When the mast is down, we remove all the existing standing rigging and cut a new one on it. For cable pressing we use the swedish ¨Wiretechnik¨ hydraulic press with which all terminals are being cold-pressed. We made the stand for the press so that it is easy movable in the car and, if necessary, we press the wires/cable on the spot.

At the request of the owner, we also replace the cables that pass through the mast tube with tinned cables and install new navigation lights.

After installing the mast, the crosses are placed parallel. In this case, it can be seen that the owner decided to install the stairs on the mast tube, which we were happy to install for him.

When trimming the mast, we use a digital tensiometer for cables over 10mm in diameter.

The works have been performed on the sailboat Bavaria 46 ¨Jetzt¨ in February 2023 in marina Kornati in Biograd. Just to add wishes for ¨fair winds and following seas¨ to Mr. Robert, who is going on a long sailing trip: first Greece, and then across the Atlantic is the goal... It is interesting that everything can be found in the mast foot after its dismantling😊

The last four pictures were taken after the performed works on the sailboat Oceanis 50 ¨Mathilde¨ in November 2023 in the marina Dalmacija, for the owner Mr. Fred who is now on his sailing trip on the route between Cape Verde and the Caribbean (as per latest information), and his goal is to go through the Panama Canal, then across the Pacific. We hereby want to greet him too, with wishes for ¨fair winds and following seas¨ .

Here, in addition to the ropes (standing rigging), cables, navigation lights... we also changed the ropes (running rigging), and it looks really nice...
